Prof. Srinivasulu Chelmala is working as Full Professor at the Department of Zoology, University College of Science (UCS), Osmania University and serving as the Director of the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Studies, Osmania University which is a Centre-of-Excellence (CoE) established with the support of Ministry of Education, Government of India under the scheme Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA 2.0). He is also heading the Wildlife Biology and Taxonomy Laboratory and is the curator of the Natural History Museum, Osmania University. He has served Osmania University in various administrative capacities including Coordinator – Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and presently Coordinator – RUSA 2.0 and the Founding Director of Osmania Technology Business Incubator (OTBI).

He was awarded the Ph. D degree in 2000 from Osmania University and served as CSIR Post-Doctoral Fellow during 2002-2005. He later worked as Scientist-D at Centre for Environmental Management of Degraded Ecosystems, School of Environmental Science at University of Delhi during 2005-2007 and since June 2007 onwards he is working as faculty member at Osmania University. A naturalist, tetrapod biologist and taxonomist, he has conducted research in most parts of India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. He has visited Denmark, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines for research workshops and training. He has executed five major research projects on bat studies.

He was successful in getting Indo-United Kingdom collaborative research projects twice – first under UGC-UKIERI in 2014, and second under DST-UKIERI in 2017. Seven research scholars have completed their Ph D research under his guidance, and three research scholars have submitted their PhD thesis for adjudication and award; two more are currently executing their PhD research. A learned scholar with global acclaim, he has to his credit 155 research papers in peer-reviewed international and national journals, 132 online resources on IUCN Red List database, 12 Books. He is widely cited in the field with a citation index of 2812 and H Index 17. Recognizing his contribution to natural science he has been elected as Fellow of Linnean Society, London and Fellow of Zoological Society of London. He is a member of 16 academic and professional bodies of national and international repute. He is an Expert Member of the Telangana State Biodiversity Board, Government of Telangana State, and he is an IUCN Regional RedList Authority for South Asian Bats.
